Applying for your UK passport in Pakistan

Where to apply
In Pakistan, British passports are issued at the British High Commission in Islamabad. Here, you can:
- Submit your passport application and fee (by cash or bankers draft. Cheques are not accepted). However, you can also submit your passport application form by post;
- collect passport application forms;
- collect LS01 form (to report your passport lost or stolen);
- collect your finished passports.
Since 1 November 2007, the Deputy High Commission in Karachi has stopped offering a passport service. However you can still use the Commission to:
- collect application forms;
- collect the LS01 form (to report your passport lost or stolen).
- collect finished passport (see below – ‘Can I send my send application by Post?’)
Emergency passports are issued at our both offices in Islamabad and Karachi.
Our public opening times are:
- Monday to Thursday: 08:00 – 13:15
- Friday: 0800 – 12:00
Passports can be collected:
- Monday to Thursday: 12:00 – 1400
- Friday: 10:00 - 12:00

We strongly recommend using a secure registered/courier service for sending the application forms and relevant documents. If you wish to collect your completed passport from the British Deputy High Commission in Karachi, please include Rs 300 (postal charge) in your draft.
If sending your passport application by post, you must pay the passport fee by a bankers draft. Please make them payable to ‘British High Commission Islamabad’. We do not accept personal cheques. Please do not include cash with the application.

What photos do I need?
You will need to provide two identical passport photographs that meet the standards set out. This is a guide to some photographers that can provide the correct photos - although the British High Commission accepts no responsibility for the quality of any photographs obtained from any of these outlets.
What supporting documents do I need?
We request a range of different documents depending on the type of passport application. Further details are listed here. If invited for interview you may be asked to produce more documents.
Will I be called for interview?
All first-time passport applicants are required to attend an interview. For all other applications, our specialist teams will carry out an initial assessment of your application, including checking the integrity of the documentation submitted, after which it will be decided whether or not we will need to call you for interview. We will get in touch as soon as this decision is made.
Important Notice
- Parents do not need to bring children when submitting the original passport application form, when applying for 1st time British passport, as children need to be present at the time of interview.
- Applicants may choose to be accompanied by one other person/relative. Please avoid bringing any extra/non-relevant people to the High Commission, as they will not be allowed to come inside.
How much will it cost?
The current fees in local currency are as follows:
- 32 page passport Rs 17,360
- 32 page child (under 16) passport Rs 11,060
- 48 page ‘jumbo’ passport Rs 21,000

People born on or before 2 September 1929 are eligible for free UK passports. They must be use the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) application form to apply for this passport. These forms are available from your local Embassy, Consulate or High Commission.
Please be aware that fees are non-refundable, even if your application is unsuccessful.
How can I pay?
You can pay in the following ways:
- You can pay by cash in person; or
- You can pay by a Bank Draft (made payable to "British High Commission Islamabad").
How long will it take to get my passport?
Renewals of existing passports usually take around 10 working days (not including postage time). However first time applications can take four to five months to process.
You should not make any travel arrangements until the new passport is received and we cannot be held responsible for costs incurred as a result of disrupted travel plans.
How do I keep in touch about the progress of my application?
We will let you know when your passport is ready for collection. Please note that due to the need for our staff to focus on core assessment task we will only respond to queries on applications that our office have had for more than ten working days.
